How to Choose Casting Scheme in Casting Production?

Different castings have different casting methods. Sand casting is commonly used, followed by special casting methods, such as: metal casting, investment casting, gypsum casting, etc. And sand casting can be divided into clay sand, organic binder sand, resin self-hardening sand, lost foam and so on.

Principles of casting method selection:

1 Sand casting is preferred, mainly because sand casting has lower cost, simpler production process and shorter production cycle than other casting methods. When the wet mold can not meet the requirements, then consider using a clay sand surface dry sand mold, dry sand mold or other sand mold. The weight of clay wet sand casting castings can range from a few kilograms to tens of kilograms, while the clay dry casting castings can weigh tens of tons.

2 The casting method should be compatible with the production batch. Low-pressure casting, die casting, centrifugal casting and other casting methods are only suitable for mass production due to the expensive equipment and molds.

3 The modeling method should be suitable for factory conditions. For example, the same is used to produce castings for large machine tool beds, and generally the core molding method is used, instead of making patterns and flasks, the core is formed in the pit; while other factories use the sand box molding method to make patterns. Different enterprises have different production conditions (including equipment, site, staff quality, etc.), production habits, and accumulated experience. They should consider what products are suitable and what products are not suitable (or not) based on these conditions.
