Production Method of Molybdenum Wire for Wire Cutting Machine

Wire-cut molybdenum wire is a kind of molybdenum product based on refractory metal molybdenum and adding other metal elements such as lanthanum or magnesium. It has the characteristics of high strength, good electrical conductivity, good toughness and low elongation, so it is widely used as Electrode materials in fast wire and medium wire EDM can cut a variety of hard and brittle materials. However, since there are many production methods for wire-cut molybdenum wire, the shortcomings of the products currently on the market are different, some have short lifespan, some are easy to loose wire, some have low strength, some have poor consistency, and so on. In order to solve the above problems, a more reasonable production process will be introduced below, which is to add solid solution metal elements and rare earth oxides by means of solid-liquid doping. The specific steps are as follows:

1) Prepare raw materials: solid molybdenum dioxide (MoO2), 0.005% to 0.2% solid solution metal elements (selected from at least one or more of titanium, zirconium, cobalt, tungsten, nickel, magnesium, hafnium, rhenium), 0.05% to 0.45% rare earth oxides (at least one or more selected from lanthanum oxide, cerium oxide, yttrium oxide, and neodymium oxide).

2) In liquid type titanium containing compounds, liquid type zirconium containing compounds, liquid type cobalt containing compounds, liquid type tungsten containing compounds, liquid type nickel containing compounds, liquid type magnesium containing compounds, liquid type hafnium containing compounds, liquid type rhenium containing compounds At least one liquid compound is selected and added to the solid molybdenum dioxide.

3) Among liquid lanthanum-containing compounds, liquid yttrium-containing compounds, liquid cerium-containing compounds, and liquid neodymium-containing compounds, at least one liquid compound is selected and added to the solid molybdenum dioxide obtained in step 2), and mixed. After homogenization, hydrogen reduction is performed to obtain molybdenum powder containing solid solution metal elements and rare earth oxides.

4) The molybdenum powder obtained in step 3) is pressed into molybdenum billets by isostatic pressing, and then sintered in an intermediate frequency furnace. The system temperature is 1200~1400℃.

5) The molybdenum wire rod is processed to the diameter of the molybdenum wire rod with a rotary hammer, and then hot wire drawing, annealing and cold wire drawing are performed to obtain a wire-cut molybdenum wire with a tensile strength between 1900 and 2300 MPa .

The advantages of this production technology are: adding solid solution metal elements can appropriately improve the strength of molybdenum wire; adding rare earth oxides can improve the strength, high temperature resistance and wear resistance of molybdenum wire; adopting an intermediate annealing process can reduce product cracks. Produced; using the finished multi-mode cold drawing process, the effect of work hardening and increasing strength can be achieved.
